Last week was jam-packed with field trips! On Tuesday, Grades 1 and 2 saw the play The Emperor's New Clothes at the Morgan-Wixson Theatre. Students were not only treated to the performance, but also enjoyed talking to the actors and actresses, some of whom were also in elementary school, after the play. Students learned about all of the hard work that goes into putting on a theatrical production.

On Tuesday, Grade 1 students headed off campus to the West LA Sanitation Yard. In conjunction with their study of recycling in the classroom, students saw the different types of garbage trucks and learned how to properly sort trash. They reflected on the importance of recycling and connected it to the Jewish value of bal tashchit, which means "do not destroy."

Holiday Toy Joy

On December 19 and 23, the Karsh Family Social Service Center hosted its own on-site toy distribution for our client families, thanks to the generosity and support of the Wilshire Boulevard Temple community. Through the Brawerman toy drive, donations brought to Chanukah Aglow, and Temple families’ own individual toy drives, we were able to invite more than 45 families who participate in Karsh Center programs and activities to come pick out toys for their children.

A B'nei Mitzvah Trip to Remember

It was truly the trip of a lifetime! This past December, more than 80 WBT members journeyed to Israel with Rabbi Eshel for our annual B’nei Mitzvah Trip. We explored the ancient city of Jaffa, experienced Tel Aviv culture and nightlife, climbed Masada, ate lunch in a Druze village, spelunked through 2,000-year-old caves, descended underground at a secret ammunition factory, rode donkeys and camels, took a dip in the Dead Sea, ventured through the alleys of the Old City, tasted our way through the Machane Yehuda market in Jerusalem, and much, much more!

Welcome to Camp!

Close your eyes and imagine you’re walking through a quaint, secluded college campus nestled in the foothills of the Santa Monica Mountains. Sprawling fields and other natural settings are woven between preserved Spanish-style buildings. Imagine it’s summer—there aren’t too many people around, so it’s pretty quiet. You make your way toward the south side of the campus when, suddenly, you begin to feel a familiar energy. You hear the sound of children playing, the sound of laughter, the sound of people having the time of their lives. You may never have stepped foot on this college campus, but you’ve been here before. You’re at camp.
