A Taste of Modern Yiddish Literature in Four Tongues - taught by Miri Koral, Director of the California Institute for Yiddish Culture and Language and Continuing Lecturer in Yiddish at UCLA
One of the richest modern literature in the world, Yiddish literature begins in the 1880s and ends with the Holocaust, though significant Yiddish writing continues on to this day. Over the course of 4 weeks, we will explore a sampling of works written by four of Yiddish literature's greats. We invite you to read these short stories and poems in English translation and to participate in discussions of their authors and themes which are both particular to the Jewish experience while being entirely universal. Reading List TBA.
