Planning For Summer

Dear Camp Families,

Things in the camp office are moving along as usual as we prepare for another fantastic summer filled with all of the joyous activities that you look forward to each year. With that in mind we wanted to share our thoughts about and summer plans with regards to the Coronavirus (COVID-19).

We know that many of you have concerns about how this will affect your lives in the immediate future as well as your summer plans. I want to reassure you that you are not alone, we have those same concerns, we are here to support you in any way that we can, and that is why we are thinking about what we can do now to plan best for the future. As of now we will be having camp in the summer of 2020.

Thankfully we are still over three months from the opening day of camp which will provide us with ample time to assess the situation and make a decision as to how to move forward with our summer.

The impact this virus is having on the community and the world is immense and changing by the day. As is always the case, the health and safety of our community is of the utmost importance. Your child’s welfare will be our guide in any decision that we make. We are in ongoing contact with local, state and federal officials, keeping a watchful eye on the situation.

Whether or not COVID-19 impacts all or part of the summer is yet to be decided. In the worst-case scenario that we have to cancel camp for the summer of 2020 we will, of course, refund all of your camp fees. As always if you do not feel comfortable sending your child to camp you may withdraw them. Given the current situation, we are extending our published deadlines. If you choose to withdraw prior to June 1st you can choose to roll your paid fees into next summer or receive a full refund. After June 1st, we will hold your DEPOSIT as a credit towards next summer.

We understand that the possibilities of what may happen can be stressful and even scary. I want to reassure you that we will let you know as much information as we can, as soon as we can, so that we can help you make the decisions that are best for your family. With this in mind we have put a page on our website connecting to some helpful resources and information. Additionally below are some links to relevant pieces including tools for how to talk with your child about COVID-19:

  • The World Health Organization (WHO) has lots of great information on resources, travel policies, and other background regarding COVID-19.

  • The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has guidance on managing mental health and coping during COVID-19 for children and caregivers.

  • The Child Mind Institute has published a resource on how to talk to young people about COVID-19.

You are an important part of our camp community and just as we are here to support you during the joyous times like camp we are here to support you during the tough ones like now. Please do not hesitate to reach out to our camp team at (213) 835-2196 if you have any questions or concerns and as always should you want to speak with me directly you can reach me at Seth@wbtcamps.org. With the love and support of one another, we will get through this together.

L’Shalom,
