Colleyville, Texas - Statement from Rabbi Leder and Scott Edelman

Updated 8:30 PM January 15, 2022

The hostage incident today at Congregation Beth Israel in Colleyville, Texas causes us all grave concern. We are grateful that our prayers have been answered with all of the hostages released safely and unharmed.

Our Safety and Security team has been monitoring this situation from its onset in collaboration with local and national intelligence agencies. At this time, all of our campuses are unoccupied, secured, and closed. Local police are increasing patrols to synagogue locations but there is no indication the hostage situation had any nexus to the Los Angeles Jewish community, nor any direct threat to our region.

We remain in solidarity with our fellow Jews everywhere, grateful for our Temple’s extraordinary security professionals and protocols, the skillful efforts of law enforcement and government agencies involved in Texas, and the end to this sad and frightening act of terror in Colleyville.

Rabbi Steve Leder

Scott Edelman, President

This afternoon, Rabbi Leder appeared with Poppy Harlow on CNN.
