Before becoming a part of our Wilshire Boulevard Temple family in summer 2023, Rabbi Elkin served as the Hillel Director and Jewish Chaplain at the Claremont Colleges. While there, she led a strategic vision to revitalize the Claremont Jewish community as students returned to campus post Covid. Her plan focused on creative Jewish programming and ritual, mental health, wellness, and student leadership development.
Ordained at Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion in Los Angeles in 2021, Rabbi Elkin also completed an M.A. in Jewish Education, received awards for academic excellence, and served part-time at several Jewish organizations in Los Angeles. Before attending rabbinical school, she earned a bachelor’s in Religious Studies from Middlebury College and a Master of Theological Studies from Harvard Divinity School. She has spent many summers as the Education Director at Greene Family Camp in Bruceville, TX, designing creative rituals, writing experiential curricula, and grilling a few hundred cookout hamburgers.
Rabbi Elkin is a gifted rabbi who makes Judaism relevant, accessible, and personally meaningful to Jews of all ages. Initially, along with Rabbi Steve Leder, Rabbi Joel Simonds, and Cantor Kerith Spencer-Shapiro, Rabbi Elkin will be focusing her efforts on the Resnick Family Campus, getting to know all of the families, new and old, being on the bimah and actively engaging in our Early Childhood Center and Religious School.
In addition to being a wonderful rabbi, a born and raised Texan, Rabbi Elkin loves good Tex-Mex, BBQ, and baseball.
