Rabbi Leah Fein

We are excited to welcome another new rabbi to the Temple. For the past five years, Rabbi Leah Fein has been the Senior Director of Engagement at Columbia/Barnard Hillel in New York. While there, she helped hundreds of Jewish students connect to Jewish life and community on campus in ways that were right and meaningful to them. Beginning on July 15, Rabbi Fein will join our clergy team. Her appointment is a homecoming of sorts, as she grew up at Wilshire Boulevard Temple with four generations of her family. Rabbi Fein will be based at the Irmas Campus, where her background will be especially valuable to our high school & college students, recent graduates, and young adults. She will also build relationships and programs for the families at our Irmas campus.

Before joining the Columbia/Barnard Hillel team in 2019, Rabbi Fein worked at Syracuse Hillel. Her leadership helped transform Syracuse Hillel, earning Hillel International’s Outstanding Campus Award in 2019.

Ordained in 2015 and along with earning an MA in Jewish Education from the Jewish Theological Seminary, Rabbi Fein won the Pomerantz Prize in Congregational Education. During rabbinical school, she interned at Park Avenue Synagogue in New York City, Sinai Temple in Los Angeles, and the Metropolitan Jewish Health System hospice residences in the Bronx, completing a unit of Clinical Pastoral Education. Rabbi Fein graduated cum laude from Brandeis University with a BA in International and Global Studies and Near Eastern and Judaic Studies. Originally from Los Angeles, she spent many summers as a camper and counselor at Camp Ramah in Ojai, and spent time living and learning in Israel at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and the Schechter Institute.

We thank our Trustees, Temple, School, and Camp leadership, and Temple members who participated in the rabbinic selection process. We are delighted to welcome Rabbi Fein, her husband, Alex, and their baby, Asher, back home to Wilshire Boulevard Temple.
