Rabbi Leah Lewis

We are pleased to announce that Rabbi Leah Lewis will join the Clergy of Wilshire Boulevard Temple, starting on July 1, 2024. In her new position, Rabbi Lewis will be based on the Glazer Campus where her portfolio will include extensive involvement with our schools, adult community, and the Karsh Family Social Service Center.

We also thank the many people who met Rabbi Lewis during an extensive interview process - our clergy, members of the Board of Trustees, parents in our schools, educators, and the Temple’s leadership team.

Rabbi Lewis, who has served as Senior Rabbi at Temple Menorah in Redondo Beach since 2017, is a gifted Jewish leader with extensive experience as a rabbi and Jewish educator. Prior to Temple Menorah, she served as Rabbi and Director of Lifelong Learning at Congregation Shir HaMa'alot in Irvine, as Director of Jewish Studies at Tarbut v’Torah Community Day School in Irvine, and as Associate Rabbi at Leo Baeck Temple in Los Angeles. She was ordained from the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion in 2002.

Rabbi Lewis grew up in Riverside, California where she developed a strong identification with Judaism at an early age, influenced by both her family and her longstanding involvement with Jewish summer camps and youth groups. She received her undergraduate degrees in Sociology and Religious Studies at the University of California at Santa Barbara. After graduating from UCSB, Rabbi Lewis spent a year as a Legislative Assistant at the Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism in Washington D.C., researching various public policy issues from a Jewish perspective and advocating for these issues on behalf of Reform Judaism.

She is married to David Lewis, a fellow professional in Jewish learning and engagement, and together they have raised three children. Rabbi Lewis enjoys running, hiking, yoga, cooking and more than her fair share of coffee, some of which she looks forward to having with you.

On behalf of the Board of Trustees, the clergy, and lay leadership of Wilshire Boulevard Temple, please join us in welcoming Rabbi Leah Lewis.
